Summer Program for Girls
Cypress House Horse Camp is an overnight summer camp for girls 9 -- 14. We're located in woodsy and breezy west central Florida. Founded in 2004, we have grown in number of weeks offered, but maintained our limit of 8 girls per week. This ensures your daughter is given the attention she needs to acquire the new mental and physical skills necessary in learning to ride, or to increase her existing skills and improve her overall riding development. Along with riding skills our girls grow in their away-from-home social skills, making new friends they often stay in touch with through the year and return together the next summer. A popular feature of CHHorse Camp is our junior counselor opportunities for girls who show leadership and a positive work ethic for at least two years. Campers do this by achieving our Golden Shovel and/or Helping Hands awards. After their 9th or 10th grade in high school, we might ask these girls back for a free week to do all the things they did as campers, but to give more help teaching new girls the mysteries of grooming and tacking their horses as well as helping with the campers daily activities. Shortly after arrival, one of our riding instructors will observe each girl's riding skills. From that, we choose the lesson horse best suited to her needs. The camp riding counselors will teach the girls the responsibilities involved in maintaining the best care for their horses each day of their camp stay. Lessons are to teach proper form, safety and horsemanship skills in a group environment. Each rider is given tasks to complete to learn control of the horse, speed control, and how to ride in a way that makes it safe for all horses and riders. For qualified students, low jump training will be provided. Daily 2 hour lessons in English style will be individualized to each session's needs. Afternoon riding will start with the girls learning to tack their horse with a western saddle, under the guidance of our horse
manager, Tweety. The girls will plan both whole group and small group skill patterns to combine into a 30 minute parent show for Saturday morning at 10 AM. When the afternoon ride is finished the girls cool down their horse with a rinse off. They also learn to feed their horse and clean the stalls. After free time, they go into the house for showers and supper then phone calls home and time for a selection of video movies before bed time. |
